About The Ministry
The Ministry of National Security and Peace (MNSP) is the lead government ministry responsible for safeguarding Jamaica’s internal and external security, maintaining law and order, protecting life and property, and ensuring the integrity of the nation’s borders. The MNSP was established as a standalone ministry in 2001 following the separation of the former Ministry of National Security and Justice.
The Ministry develops and implements national security policies and strategies; coordinates the activities of key security and justice sector agencies; mobilises resources for crime prevention and reduction and rehabilitation; and promotes inter-agency collaboration and community partnerships to enhance public safety.
In line with the Government’s priority of reducing crime as a national imperative, the Ministry leads efforts to strengthen evidence-based policymaking, improve operational coordination across the security sector, and implement targeted interventions in communities most affected by violence and insecurity. The Ministry also plays a central role in regional and international security cooperation.
