Law Enforcement, Forensic, Border Security, Defence and Protective Security Policy Division
Overview
The Law Enforcement, Forensic, Border Security, Defence and Protective Security Policy Division holds the responsibility for the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of policies, programmes, and projects aimed at addressing the risks and underlying factors that contribute to crime and violence in Jamaica.
Through evidence-based strategies and cross-sector collaboration, it aims to strengthen national security outcomes, enhance public safety, and support the effective prevention and reduction of criminal activities.
Branches
Protective Security and Small Arms Branch (PSSAB)
PSSAB manages the importation and control of firearms, ammunition, and other security-restricted items; the regulation of private security companies; and the implementation of a Protective Security Regime within the Ministry and wider Public Service. It also supports Jamaica's CBRNE/Strategic Trade Control Regime and coordinates security vetting for government employees.
Border Security Affairs Branch
The Branch is responsible for formulating and coordinating policies and programmes aimed at securing Jamaica's borders against threats including trafficking in persons, narcotics, and illegal firearms, working collaboratively with border management agencies and international partners.
Law Enforcement, Forensic and Defence Branch
The Branch provides policy oversight and strategic direction for law enforcement operations, forensic science services, and defence-related matters within the Ministry's mandate, advancing the professionalism and effectiveness of Jamaica's law enforcement and defence sectors.
International Security Relations Branch
The Branch manages Jamaica's bilateral and multilateral security relationships, coordinating with international partners, regional bodies, and foreign governments on matters relating to national security, crime, and public safety.
Caribbean Regional Drug Law Enforcement Training Centre (REDTRAC)
Operating as a Division of the Ministry, REDTRAC is a post-secondary, special-focus training institution and regional training hub. Its objectives include strengthening regional law enforcement capabilities, reducing dependence on third countries for training, and enhancing networking and co-operation among Caribbean drug law enforcement agencies.
