Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, the Hon. Dr. Horace Chang says ground will be broken for the construction of the St. Catherine North Divisional Headquarters in July.
He made the announcement at the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) Passing Out Parade and Awards Ceremony for Batch 153 yesterday (June 25) at the National Police College of Jamaica in Twickenham Park, St. Catherine.
The Security Minister pointed out that, “this level of investment in the physical infrastructure of the JCF is unprecedented”.
He further highlighted that “we are far advanced in planning Special Operations West in Montego Bay, while there are five new stations under construction and we have seen impactful repairs to well over a hundred of the stations.”
Minister Chang emphasised that the objective of constructing and repairing police facilities “is to ensure that when you leave this facility-the police college, you go to a facility to work where you witness the transformation of the building but you would move into a facility where you can perform effectively and you feel comfortable”.
He pointed out that national security is a priority and the JCF plays a crucial role in the safety and security of the Jamaican society.
“The Jamaica Constabulary Force is the primary security organ of the country and we intend to invest in the facilities to ensure we provide the officers-you the young graduates and those shall remain for years, the tools you require to ensure peace and good order in our society,” Minister Chang explained.
In his closing remarks, Minister Chang urged the 195 freshly minted constables to embrace their roles with courage, integrity and compassion.
“You are not just joining a police force; you are joining a noble profession dedicated to ensuring public order, peace, public safety and the foundation for a prosperous society,” Minister Chang expressed.
