OVERVIEW
During the 2021/2022 period, the Ministry initiated several critical projects,
which yielded significant results for its medium- and long-term goals. These
results were generated amidst a rising murder rate and a sluggish economic
recovery triggered by the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The incorporation of technology continues to be a critical component to
boost crime-fighting efforts, which are expected to improve public order and
redound to public safety and a reduction in crime and violence. Of concern,
though some progress has been made in this area, is the matter of the
advancement of an agile legislative framework. The expansion and
strengthening of the Ministry’s legislative framework is further inhibited by
the protracted period of time that it takes to receive required input and
feedback from key stakeholders.
The 2022-2026 Strategic Business Plan outlines those broad strategies that
are expected to: contribute to accelerated project completion; augment
technology-aided crime-fighting techniques; and advance the processes
targeting an even more agile legislative framework.
The Ministry, with the broad strategies as outlined, will continue its thrust
towards social behaviour change to promulgate a culture of lawfulness, and
this by way of social investment and case management supported by a
robust and cogent communication strategy.
